The Salamanca Performing Arts Course in Entertainment employs a range of tutors who are all highly experienced professionals with connections to the local and interstate entertainment industry.
Mal Battersby: Malcolm is a qualified sound engineer and musician with over 25 years industry experience. Mal has worked with artists such as Thin Lizzy, The Police, Ozzie Osborne, Robert Plant, Michael Jackson and was the personal sound engineer/session musician for the Sultan of Brunei for 4 years. He has worked on sound at Rod Laver Arena, various studios in London, and worked in musical theatre in Melbourne.
Jason James: Jason has worked in the entertainment industry for over 19 years, and was in the first group of students to do the SPACE course. Formerly a Technical Manager for Pegasus Venue Management at the City Recital Hall Angel Place, a 1300 seat concert hall in Sydney. Jason has worked for extensively in professional event and theatre production in Tasmania and New South Wales. Jason's qualifications include: Diploma of Live Production, Theatre And Events (Technical Production), Associate Diploma of Electrical Engineering (Communications), Dogging and Rigging. In addition to technical theatre skills, he has fifteen years of professional information technology experience, and has taught at the University of Tasmania, Drysdale House, and NDA Computing. In 2011 he has created lighting designs for Tas Theatre Company, Terrapin Puppet Theatre, IHOS, MADE, and Salamanca Arts Centre.
Jon Bowling: Jon is widely regarded as one of Tasmania''s foremost set designers and constructors and has been instrumental in SPACE as a tutor and former Course Coordinator since its foundation. He has designed and built sets for theatre shows including Les Miserables, Brassed Off, Oklahoma and Cats. Jon''s expertise has seen him employed extensively with professional and semi-professional theatre companies over many years including Zootango, Round Earth, The Old Nick, Terrapin and The Tasmanian Theatre Company. In addition to his theatre construction experience Jon has a wide portfolio of film work, TV commercials and corporate displays.
In addition to these key tutors SPACE also utilises highly qualified guest tutors to teach in specialist areas such as theatrical rigging, advanced lighting operations and first aid.
